12 of the best South African Red Wines under R150

We went to Sani Pass for the most magical of holidays: scenery, food, wine, fireplaces, long baths on cold mornings...so much to do and not do...but in the delectable Underberg there are 3 primary activities that one must endeavor to do:
  1. Walk up to Lesotho
  2. Read or play cards next to a roaring fire
  3. Drink copious amounts of delicious red wine
The third was very important. We took a magnificent case of reds with us, a box of my favourites, all of which are very well priced. So I thought I'd share my 12 best SA reds under R150:

Iona Mr P, Pinot Noir, 2013: a luscious Pinot Noir, full of cherries, light, succulent, delicious every time.
About R110

Lanzerac Pinotage, 2012: I loath Pinatages in this country - I find them overly saturated with coffee and chocolate to the point where I'm done after 2 sips - BUT I was so pleasantly surprised by this one; full of red berries and bursting with flavour and just the slightest hint of chocolate - perfect.
R110

Constantia Glen Three, 2010: A glorious blend, mainly merlot and a bit of my favourite Cab franc - it's smooth and wonderfully balanced.
R150

Kleinood Tamboerskloof Syrah, 2008: All blackberries and a slight hint of pepper, this is my favourite red at the moment and 2008 is by far it's best year.
R140

Iona One Man Band, blend, 2012: It's a big, bold blend and slightly out of the price range but it's worth the little bit extra.
R180

And the rest of the list:

Faithful Hound, a stalwart slice of scrumptiousness from Mulderbosch: R125
Springfield Wholeberry, very fruity, very fresh, always a winner: R120
Meinert Merlot, any wine from Meinert is guaranteed to be delicious, but this Merlot delivers where others tend to be a bit flat: R120
Paradyskloof Pinot Noir, wooded and a little heavier than the others on this list but no less delightful: R110
Marvelous Red, a great shiraz-led blend full of spice and plums: R100
Felicite Pinot Noir, light and easy with lots of cherry: R80
Alphabetical red, a great blend, full bodied with a nice hint of spice, great bang for your buck: R80
